The Deccan Odyssey Luxury train, has been operating for the last few years, was modeled on the Palace on Wheels. The Deccan Odyssey luxury train travels through the Western Indian states of Maharashtra and Goa.The trip on the Deccan Odyssey train includes visits to the World Heritage Ajanta and Ellora’s caves and India’s most famous beach destination Goa. A wonderful way of discovering these beautiful destinations is to spend these 7 nights on the Deccan Odyssey train.
Day 1 - Wednesday – Mumbai
Your Deccan Odyssey begins at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Mumbai, where the guests will be received with a warm and traditional welcome, before the journey pulls out for a week long cruise to the Western Indian states.
After relaxing at the Tarkarli beach, you will board the coach to Dharmapur village, where you visit the ancient temple of Goddess Bhagawati and Bharadi Devi, situated on the banks of the Dharmapur lake. Post this, drive to Kudal Railway station in time to reboard the Deccan Odyssey for Dinner and overnight.
Day 2 - Thursday – Sindhudurg Nagari
This morning, the Deccan Odyssey train arrives at Sindhugarh Nagari Railway station, from where you will be taken by coach to the Malvan Jetty and then by boat to the Sindhugarh Fort. The Sindhugarh Fort was built during the mid 17 century by Shivaji, the famous Maratha leader, and this is among best preserved Fort of the Marathas. After visiting the Fort, you return to the Jetty, and proceed to the Tarkarli beach resort for lunch.
Tarkarli, at the confluence of the river Karli and the Arabian sea, is a long and narrow stretch of beach, with pristine crystal clear water on a clear day, you can see the sea bed through a depth of 20 ft.
Day 3 - Friday - Goa
This morning, the Deccan Odyssey trains arrives in Karnali, one of the rail heads for Goa, the most frequented tourist spot in India.
From Karnali, guests are taken by coach to Old Goa for a sightseeing , including visiting the ruins of St. Augustine Church , once the largest cathedral in Goa, Basilica of Bom Jesus, a 16th Century Church, where the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier are enshrined. Also visit the Se Cathedral and the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, as well as Fountain has, the Latin quarters at Panjim, the capital of Goa.
This evening have a traditional Goan meal accompanied by Goan entertainment at a beach hotel.
Lunch & Free time onboard.
Later, reboard the train at the Madgaon railway station for overnight stay.
Day 4 - Saturday - Goa
Disembark the train at the Vasco station in Goa, and visit the Hindu temples of Mhalsa and Mangeshi. After this, visit the Sahakari Spice Farm in Ponda, where you will see a large variety of spices being grown, followed by a traditional Goan style lunch at the Spice Farm. Lunch is followed by a visit to the 16th century heritage house of Menezes Braganza at Chandoli Village.
Later return to the Deccan Odyssey for Dinner and overnight.
Day 5– Sunday - Kolhapur
Today the Deccan Odyssey arrives at Kolhapur railway station, from where you will proceed for a sightseeing tour of Kolhapur visiting the New Palace, Museum, Bhavani Mandap, Maha laxmi Temple and Shalini Palace. Sightseeing includes a cultural performance and a visit to the Handicraft stalls.
After sightseeing in Kolhapur, return to the train , and depart for Aurangabad. Dinner and overnight onboard the Deccan Odyssey.
Day 6 - Monday - Aurangabad
Today the Deccan Odyssey train arrives at Daulatabad station, from where you will proceed for a sightseeing tour of Daultatabd Fort and the Ellora caves. Sightseeing this afternoon will include a visit to the Bibi - Ka – Maqbara, one of the many attractions of Aurangabad, considered by many to be a replica of the Taj Mahal.
After the sightseeing return to the Deccan Odyssey for Dinner and overnight.
Evening return on Deccan Odyssey for a farewell Dinner and overnight onboard the train.
Day 7 - Tuesday–Aurangabad / Nashik
Disembark the Deccan Odyssey after breakfast for a sightseeing tour of the World Heritage Ajanta Caves. After the sightseeing, return to the train in time for lunch, and for the onward journey to Nasik.
The train arrives in Nasik late afternoon, after which you will do a sightseeing tour of Nasik including Panchwati Ghats and the ancient temples of Nasik.
Bid farewell to your friends onboard the Deccan Odyssey, before disembarking the train at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji railway terminus.
