Kanha, 160km south-east of
Jabalpur, is on the Indias largest national parks, covering 1945 sq.
km including a core zone of 940 sq kms.The setting for Kiplings Jungle Book,
it s a beautiful area
of sal forest and lightly wooded grassland with many river and streams,
that supports excellent wildlife. It is also a part of Project Tiger. A policy
of wildlife management over the past 30 years has seen a steady increase
in the numbers of tigers and leopards, as well as sambar, chital (spotted deer),
barasingha (swamp deer) and gaur (Indian Bison) There is a good chance of sighting tigers and other animals besides being a good park for bird watching.. |
