Delhi

The capital city of India and also one of the largest cities in the Sub continent. Delhi was established seven times during its existence. The current city is a quaint mixture of the old and the new. The newer part was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and is the ultimate testament to the British Raj.

Your sightseeing tour of the city would start with a visit to the (Birla Mandir) Laxminarayan Temple, built by one of India’s foremost business families and dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the preserver.

Proceed to the war memorial, India Gate, built in memory of the 85,000 Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during World War 1. Opposite the India Gate, is the massive Rashtrapati Bhawan, the official residence of the President of India. Continue on to Humayun`s Tomb, built in the mid 16th Century by Haji Begum, wife of the Mughal Emperor Humayun. The architectural style is a precursor of the Taj Mahal.

Visit the Qutub Minar, the 75m high victory Tower. See the Iron Pillar, which has never rusted in all these years. In fact legend has it that if one manages to put his arms around the pillar backwards ones`s wishes would be granted.

Proceed on to the Bahai Temple built like a lotus flower and dedicated to the Bahaii faith. This completes your tour of New Delhi.

In the afternoon start your tour of Old Delhi with a visit to the huge Red Fort, completed by Emperor Shah Jehan in 1648 and the ultimate representation of Mughal power and glory. Visit the Jama Masjid, the largest Friday mosque in India and the final architectural extravagance of Shah Jehan, Your tour of Old Delhi ends at the simple black granite memorial to the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi - Raj Ghat..
