This central Tamilian town was once the citadel of the Chola empire.

The tour of the city starts with a visit to spectacular Rock Fort Temple. This temple tops an 83m high outcrop.. One climbs a steep 437 steps to reach the Vinayaka Temple built at the top of the hill.

The next stop on your tour is the Srirangam Temple complex around 3 kms from the Rock Fort. This complex with its seven concentric walls with 21 gopurams is probably the largest in India.The complex dates from the 14th - 17th Centuries.
