It was constructed in honey-colored basalt, and the design and the plan of this gateway was inspired by the 16th century Gujarati architecture. The altering light of the rising and the setting sun bestows different strokes of gold, russet and pink to the striking arch. The Gateway of India clinches historical importance as the last of the British armed forces leaving Independent India by sea, marched through the doorways of Gateway of India. Marine Drive: The Marine Drive, one of the landmark thoroughfares of South Mumbai, is also known as the Queen’s Necklace because of the shimmering lights that dot this road, that are visible from long distances. Flora Fountain: The Flora fountain is an embellished and elegant sculpted architectural heritage monument, which stands at a five-point juncture in the heart of the commercial Fort area. This attractive fountain was constructed in the memory of the Governor Sir Henry Bartle Edward Frere, as an honor for his influence towards the construction of Mumbai. Malabar Hill: The Malabar Hill , now one of the poshest residential neighbourhoods of South Mumbai, is so named since it stands on a hillock. The area offers wonderful views over the Back Bay. Morning, half day sightseeing tour of Ahmedabad visiting -- Sidi Sayed mosque-- built in 1573, is one of the most famous mosques of Ahmadabad. The mosque is entirely arcuated. The mosque has ten screen windows (jails) on the side and rear arches. Also visit the Shwetambara Temple, Hatheesing temple --built outside Delhi gate in 1850 by a rich Jain merchant Sheth Hatheesing. This is the best known of Ahmadabad’s many ornate Jain temples. It is dedicated to Dharamnath, the fifteenth Tirthankar whose status stand in the main sanctuary Built by pure marble profusely decorated with rich carving, Gandhi Ashram, the beautiful ashram complex of Ahmadabad, with shady trees populated by thousand of parakeets, Beaters, sun birds, squirrels, offers a refuge from the loud streets of the city and is one of the foremost tourist attraction of Ahmadabad. This ashram was Gandhi’s head quarters during the long struggle for Indian independence. His ashram was founded in 1915 and still makes handicrafts, handmade paper and spinning wheels. Later, visit the Adalaj step well -- an architectural wonder built by Queen Rudabai and is certainly one of the finest monuments of Gujarat. It is a seven-storied structure in the form of a well with chambers one behind the other. The ‘Vav’ or stepped wells of Gujarat were used as meeting and resting-places during summer since their cool interiors offered unbelievable respite from the scorching sun outside.
